Included are 22 sticks of 14 different incense blends from Yamadamatsu, one of Japan's most revered incense houses. These sticks span the range from daily burners to complex and powerful high-end sticks. Additionally, we've included an elegant celadon censer and fine, odourless incense ash. While you can burn incense sticks using a stand or holder, we strongly suggest the traditional method of burning in ash as it allows the stick to burn completely, without leaving behind unburnt stubs. On top of this, the classic censer and ash pairing can be used to try more advanced incense techniques, such as soradaki and monkō (which you can learn more about here).

This kit includes:

1 - Celadon kōro (incense censer)

1 - 90 Bag of incense ash

1 - Daily Karaku Incense Sample Set

1 - Specialty Incense Sample Set

These Japanese items ship from the United States.

<s:tag>Collection_New Arrivals</s:tag> <s:tag>Collection_Our Favourites</s:tag> <s:tag>Item Location_United States</s:tag> <s:tag>Product Type_Bundle</s:tag> <s:tag>Product Type_Incense</s:tag> <s:tag>Product Type_Starter Set</s:tag> <s:variant>

Default Title
<s:price currency="USD">44.00</s:price> <s:sku></s:sku> <s:grams>375</s:grams> </s:variant>

Japanese Kōro - 井栗敏也 Igura Toshiya - Ao-mishima Kiyomizu Incense Censer
<s:type>Incense</s:type> <s:vendor>Kiyomizu-yaki</s:vendor>

Vendor: Kiyomizu-yaki
Type: Incense
Price: 78.00

This Kiyomizu-yaki lidded kōro (incense censer) has an elegant, tall shape and is decorated in a unique style called ao-mishima (青三島). The base glaze underneath is a textured matte black.

This style of kōro (香炉 - incense censer) is designed to be filled with incense ash and can be used either with incense sticks or with charcoal to heat nerikō and kōboku.

To use with incense sticks, simply remove the lid and place a lit stick vertically in the ash. As the stick burns, the spent ash will fall into the censer and can be mixed with the rest of the ash after the stick has burnt through. Burning in ash lets the stick burn completely, without leaving any unburnt nubs behind. If you'd like, you can put the lid back on once the stick has burned below the rim of the censer and enjoy the sight of the smoke diffusing through the holes in the lid.

To use with nerikō or kōboku, use the soradaki technique.
