This kogo (incense container) features a flat lid and wide compartment, decorated to resemble a fan with abstract blue painted motifs.
In Japanese tea ceremony, kogo are used to hold wood chip incense during the furo (brazier - summer/spring) season while ceramic kogo are used to hold neriko (kneaded incense) during the ro (hearth - autumn/winter) season.
